Workshop Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of 12 workshop staff, providing direction, motivation, and support to ensure a high-performance culture.
  • Operations Management: Oversee the daily operations of the workshop, including scheduling and coordinating repair and maintenance activities for machinery and equipment.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meet the company's quality standards and are completed on time, adhering to all safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage the efficient use of workshop resources, tools, and spare parts to minimise downtime and optimise productivity.
  • Training and Development: Identify skill gaps within the team and provide training and development opportunities to enhance the technical abilities and performance of the staff.
  • Customer Communication: Liaise with customers, providing updates on the progress of repairs or maintenance, and ensuring customer satisfaction with service quality.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control, ensuring that necessary parts and supplies are available and managing stock levels to avoid delays in work.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure that the workshop operates in compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Budget and Cost Management: Monitor and control the workshop's budget, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports on workshop performance, including progress on projects, safety compliance, and any potential issues to senior management.


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a workshop management or supervisory role, ideally in the mechanical or heavy equipment sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and maintenance procedures for heavy equipment or machinery.
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety regulations in a workshop environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Experience in managing workshop budgets, inventory, and resource allocation.


Qualifications:

  • A background in mechanical engineering, maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in workshop management, mechanical engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • Previous experience in the road construction or mining equipment industry would be advantageous but is not essential.
